NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS 2011
Sport Taekwondo UK have announced details of this year’s 2011 BTCB National Championships.
The event will be staged on the weekend of 18-19 June at the Manchester Velodrome and is again open to all BTCB members of all ages. In addition, this year’s Championships sees the introduction of an exciting new ‘Veterans’ division making it undoubtedly the biggest WTF competition in the UK this year.

Grandmaster Shin has just become the UK`s 1st Poomsae World Champion!!
Master Shin is the Chairman of the United Taekwondo Association and cheif grading examiner.
One of the highest graded and most respected Korean Masters in Great Britain, Master Shin (8th Dan, Kukkiwon) has trained and inspired most of the top Taekwondo players and Instructors in this country. His Instructor is Grand Master Kim Soon Bae, 9th Dan WTF. Master Shin's Academy is based in Manchester.

5th World Taekwondo Poomsae Championships Kick Off in Tashkent, Uzbekistan
The 5th WTF World Taekwondo Poomsae Championships kicked off for a three-day run in Tashkent, Uzbekistan on Oct. 8, 2010. The WTF-promoted event, which takes place at the 2,800-seat Universal Sports Palace Uzbekistan, drew a total of 447 contestants, including 194 females, from 59 countries. The first edition of the World Poomsae Championships was held in Seoul, Korea in 2006, attracting 407 athletes from 57 countries.
The next 6th World Taekwondo Poomsae Championships are scheduled for 2011 in Vladivostok, Russia.

Scottish Poomsae Championships 2010
The event will be held at Grangemouth Sports Complex on Saturday 2nd October 2010.
There are 3 12 x 12m matted competition areas and all players have their name and team displayed on large screens as they compete. Last year's event attracted over 200 competitors from all over the UK and Ireland.

10:30 to 12.45pm: All ages and grades welcome as the National Team coaches and invited guests take these aspiring players through their paces alongside Korean Olympic University athletes, Norway Olympic Team members, GB players and the full Scotland National Team. This development opportunity will give Taekwondo enthusiasts and aspiring players a fresh perspective on their training and a chance to work with some world-class athletes and coaches.
12:45 to 4.30pm International Sparring Matches (all welcome) support Scotland as they fight it out on the centre ring with Korea, Norway and Great Britain in the sparring demonstration matches (national team athletes only)
Scotland National Team Selection event for the 2010 Team
The Scotland Coaching team will use the seminar portion of this event to indentify talented Scottish athletes for potential inclusion in the 2010 National Team. The stand out players will then be invited, in consultation with club coaches and parents, to join the teams of Scotland, Korea, Norway and GB at Stirling University for an international training evening on Tuesday August 10th. These athletes will then have the chance to make it onto the full National Team! – hope to see you all there.

A great performace by the winning team Carronshore Primary School the Scottish Primary School Champions 2010 The 3rd Annual Scottish Inter-Schools Championships were held at Carronshore Community Centre on
Sunday 2nd May. There were 75 players from 18 different primary schools around Scotland.
The Inter-Schools Shield was 1st won by Ladeside Primary in 2008. Carronshore won the trophy in 2009 and retained their title at this year’s event. The event gets bigger each year and it is hoped more primary school
pupils from all over Scotland will contest the medals in future years.

The first quarter of the year has been a busy one in the world of Taekwondo.
The start of the year saw the World Taekwondo Federation award Miss Thailand 2009 Goodwill Ambassador of Taekwondo, She holds a second Dan in WTF Taekwondo. This proving WTF Taekwondo is a truly global sport. Here are few well known ladies who also do Taekwondo.

A bit closer to home was the 12th Scottish Taekwondo Cup in Grangemouth,
This competition as always was full of great matches with 180 fighters from all over the UK and our very own Mr Alan Haston returned to the ring after 6 years out from competition. With two great matches he came away with a bronze medal and the competing bug! So watch out for Alan as he is back in training and looking forward to the rest of the year on the circuit.

The last weekend in March saw over three hundred competitors from all over the UK travel to Sheffield for the British Poomsae Championships. Both Alba Instructors took part in the team event with Simon Mcansh and came in second place just behind the national team members.
The Scottish Poomsae Championships will be held in October so we hope we to have an Alba Taekwondo team at this event.
